Guardrails

Within AI Decisioning, you can specify guardrails to ensure that the AI is only taking actions that you’re comfortable with.

Timing

Marketers can set guardrails for when and how often messages are sent to each user. Hightouch will automatically experiment with different frequencies, days of the week, and times of day for each user, within your defined guardrails.

The time zone column must be filled out in order to accurately share learnings across different users. The fallback time zone is only used when a user doesn’t have a time zone specified on their record.

Additional action-specific timing guardrails can be applied at the individual action level (e.g. a certain message can only be sent up to once per month to the same user).

AI Decisioning guardrails

User eligibility

In AI Decisioning, there’s three levels of guardrails to define which users can receive which actions.

  1. At the top level, you are specifying a parent model which is the global set of users that AI Decisioning is aware of. This is usually all of your users.

  2. At the flow level, you specify a target audience. As soon as a user does not meet the target audience criteria, they’ll drop out of the flow and stop receiving any actions for that flow. This is usually a broad audience of users for which you’re trying to drive some specific outcome (e.g. users who signed up in the past 90 days).

  3. At the action level, you can add additional eligibility criteria to ensure actions are not sent to users where it makes no sense. For example, if your action is promoting dog treats, you may want to specify eligibility criteria to only target users who own a dog.

Action eligibility criteria should only be used to filter out users for which the action makes no sense to send to. They should not be used to specify users you think will respond well. The AI will learn which users respond well from the broader base of users who are eligible to receive it.
